We are 5 women, all Childbirth Educators and Doulas, dedicated to supporting women during their childbearing years. We offer our services as a team to insure the couple or mom, the most dependable, knowledgeable and caring beginning to the spectacular event she will soon be experiencing.

Our goal is to educate the parents-to-be, so that they will be fully prepared for the new experiences they will soon be having. We address the different choices they will face concerning hospital procedures, medicated and non-medicated births, informed consent and patient rights, coping skills in labor and delivery, and comfort measures through out the entire pregnancy and through the first year of infancy.

Our extensive training as certified instructors has been through the Childbirth Education Association of San Diego. Our mission statement is based on the ICEA (International Childbirth Educators Association): "Freedom of Choice Based on Knowledge of Alternatives." We use modified Lamaze techniques, along with additional forms of comfort measures that have been proven through many years of practice to enhance the birth experience for the couple. Skills in hypnosis, meditation, yoga breathing and any forms of coping skills are supported through your doulas care.

We offer our services as childbirth educators for a variety of needs: private, in-home education, referral to community based 6 week classes, refresher preparation for the 2^nd or 3^rd time around couple, breastfeeding help, and in home personal training for your physical fitness needs. We also offer our services in a wide range of specialties. We are labor and postpartum support Doulas, which means that we can be contracted to be a part of your birth and/or home care experience as that additional support person.During labor and after the baby is delivered, Mom and the family often feel tired, sometimes unsure, and always in need of extra help. The postpartum Doula is designed to help out in those first few weeks. We can be contracted to come into the home to help with housework, baby care basics, breastfeeding help, and to give you the feeling that everything will be ok!

Our team of educators includes a certified fitness instructor, teen educators, lactation educators, certified doulas, and specialists in private classes and specialized birth experiences. We also have an extensive list of referrals, so you are assured of having a doula to meet your needs. Our referral list contains other professionals in the childbirth and parenting field.

Beautiful Beginnings is the first and longest running labor and postpartum support team in San Diego County. Founded in 1994, we soon found that women from all walks of life wanted to be doulas as well, so we expanded our resources by becoming doula trainers, and now offer training for labor and postpartum doula work. Our goal is to meet your needs during your pregnancy and beyond.
