Beautiful Moments Doula Services
Certified Birth Doula
My name is Laura Schmalfeldt and I am first and foremost a mother. I
have two beautiful children, a little girl born in 2009 and a new baby
boy born in 2011. I am currently a certified Birth Doula through
Childbirth International. I believe birth is truly one of the most
beautiful moments a family can ever experience and have a passion to
help others make it special and memorable.
My Desire for Beautiful Moments:
I believe that women were created to carry and birth a child.
Everything about the birthing process is a miracle. Each mother can
create the birth she desires whether it be medicated or non-medicated.
I will help educate you in all options of birth so that you can
experience your ideal birth plan. I believe every women deserves the
sensitive support a Doula can bring. I will offer you and your partner
comfort and guidance through your pregnany, delivery, and recovery. I
fully support all types of labor whether they be medicated, c-section,
scheduled induction, or all natural. Each mother deserves the right to
choose what is best for them and their baby.
Why I became a Doula:
I was originally inspired to become a labor and delivery nurse after
the birth of my daughter in 2009. But through the process realized
that a Doula is much more of what I was desiring to do. I love
supporting other women and helping them become empowered through their
own birth experiences! Pregnancy is not easy and breezy for me. I was
sick for most of my pregnancies and have had numerous infections and
fainting spells during both. Needless to say, not a walk in the park.
I spent many hours researching and planning for labor. I wanted to do
it natural. My due date came and past until finally I began having
minor contractions 3 days after my due date. Those minor contractions
lasted for 2 days and I dialted to a 4. With no sleep and to the point
of frustration I checked into the hospital and had my Doctor break my
water. The contractions came hard and fast. I labored in a warm bath
while my daughter was posterior and causing me severe back pain. After
5 hours, I had only dialated to a 5. I decided to get an epidural. 2
hours later I was holding my 9lb little girl and laughing about how I
didn’t even feel a thing! The recovery period was very hard on me. My
body was in pain for 2 weeks after and my husband had to go back to
work a day after we came home. And after looking back on my birth, I
realized that many decisions were made based on my lack of
understanding of my options. But the crazy thing was, I wanted to go
back and do it all again! I loved every second of it, no matter the
comfort level. That is when I realized that birth is something I want
to be a part of as much as I can. So I had two options, make lots of
babies (haha)… or help other women bring their own beautiful little
ones into this world. There is no moment that can compare to a mother
holding her child for the first time, it is such a Beautiful Moment.
